Reinstated Superintendent of Police Simon McBean

Superintendent of Police Simon McBean was on Thursday reinstated as a member of the Guyana Police Force by the Police Service Commission following negotiations between his lawyer Patrice Henry and the Police Service Commission.

McBean has not yet been posted to any specific area of the force but showed up for work yesterday, the reinstatement we were told took effect from the date he was dismissed in 2009.

The Guyana Police Force through the Police Service Commission has dismissed McBean after they claimed that his departure to elevate himself academically was not properly sanctioned by the force. McBean then filed a suite for wrongful dismissal and in 2018, won his case.

He has been reinstated as Superintendent, the rank that he last had held at the time of his dismissal from the force in 2009.

Superintendent Simon McBean was dismissed at the 35 and now with his reinstatement, has ten more years to serve the force before he reaches the age of retirement. It is unclear how if any systems would be adopted by the Police Service Commission to ensure that McBean’s upward mobility is done with consideration for years he was unlawfully kicked out of the Guyana Police Force.

Many persons including junior and senior ranks within the force have nothing but good words to say publicly about Simon McBean after his successful lawsuit challenging his dismissal.

Prior to being dismissed, he served as a sub divisional officer and in other areas of the force where he commanded and lead junior ranks, many of who seems to be rooting for him now with his return to the organisation.

Superintendent Simon McBean returns to the Guyana Police Force qualified in community policing. His qualifications seems to have been something that has been lacking within the force that has saw the decline of the Social Crime Prevention Programs which the force launched in 2014.
