Man charged for faking robbery, burning company bus

A 35-year-old driver who misused his employer’s money and then staged a robbery, was on Monday granted $300,000 bail.

Mulchand Lall of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was arrested on Friday, September 03, 2021 and charged for Malicious Damage to Property contrary to section 160 of the Criminal Law offence Act Chapter 8.01.

He appeared at the Diamond Magistrate Court before Magistrate Sunil Scrace on Monday where the charge was read to him, and he pleaded not guilty. He was granted $300,000Gc bail matter adjourned to September 28, 2021 for statements.

Reports are that Lall, a Driver/Salesman of Singh’s Confectionery (Candy Corner) initially told police that he was robbed on Friday ay 08:30h on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

However, during an interview with the police, he confessed to have staged the robbery to “cover his tracks” since he misused the company money. Police said Lall arranged for men to stage the robbery and burn the bus with which he was transporting goods for the company.
