A PLEA FOR HELP, THE STORY OF MR KAISO

“As an active member of the “Men On Mission” (MOM), I chose to utilize this network to assist a family friend whom I have known for over a decade.
Our friendship started with the exchange of pleasantries when I first moved to Whim Police Station Compound as a young Cadet Officer in 2012 and has continued to present although we no longer share geographical ties.
The man I am referring to is Mr. Bramha Kaiso, a 61 year old man who was born on March 4th, 1961 and have grown to call my wife and I his children. Always believing that God will hear his plight one day, on Saturday 28th January, 2023 we visited the place we knew him to be living since meeting him, which he said he has resided for the past 17 years, and were saddened to see that nothing has changed.
Mr. Kaiso is disabled having suffered a fall from his landing 21 years ago at his former address in Lancaster which left him with a spinal injury and then since have been abandoned by all his close loved one. He went through a divorce in 1969 since his wife migrated and met someone else who she later married. Mr. Kaiso’s story is filled with heartbreak, turmoil, and struggles.

He has a son who resides in the United States of America and has a drug addiction. The shack which Mr. Kaiso occupies to this day is constructed of plywood, zinc and some amount of cardboard which was done for him by public spirited citizen since he is unable to do anything for himself. The leaking roof and small space is only compounded by the lack of sanitation facilities which could greatly and surely have greatly impacted on his health.
Despite not having fully functional hands due to his injury, Mr. Kaiso cleans himself by fetching a small bucket of water from standpipe located a few feet away from his makeshift step. Mr. Kaiso does his best to keep up with current affairs via a radio and is equipped with, in true Guyanese terms, a mango pelter which he uses to contact those who render him with assistance from time to time. He has little in terms of possessions, but possesses a heart of gold and a personality that is welcoming and a pleasure to be around.
I therefore plea with my colleagues and friends who are part of the “Men On Mission” initiative to help me make my friend’s 62nd birth anniversary one to remember by being the catalyst to having receiving a habitable space where he can call home and live out his days is peace, health and happiness.
If Mr. Kaiso’s story touches you as much as it does me, you can learn more from him by calling him at +592-681-1083 or visit him at Whim Station Corner, Whim Village, Corentyne, Berbice just at the turn before you arrive at Whim Police Station. He has suffered enough and deserves a helping hand.”
