The taxi driver who was killed on Tuesday evening in Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara  has been identified as 34 year old Owayne Lynch, 34 years old of Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown.  Taxi Driver robbed, murdered in Mocha

This was confirmed by the police who said that Lynch who worked with a taxi service was dispatched to make a pickup in Sophia were he made contact with one person.

The police statement could not definitively state if the man was attacked by one or more than one person(s) and there is no immediate information as to if Lynch had cause to pick up any other passengers on his way to Mocha after the initial Sophia pickup.

The address where the pickup was made on Tuesday night was given as Lot 6 Dennis Street, Turkeyen, Sophia and the pickup was made roughly at 20:30hrs. There has been no mention by the police if detectives have already visited that address to question persons as to who may have requested the taxi on Tuesday evening.

Initial reports out of Mocha on Tuesday suggested that the 43 year old was attacked after he reached his final destination a Cemetery Road Mocha.

Cemetery Road Mocha Arcadia is a very narrow street which makes it very difficult to effectively turn a vehicle around. It is unclear if the passenger(s) lead the driver to one of those points and then attempted to take his car, exit without paying or just robbed him.

Whatever the circumstances was; it forced the taxi driver to exit his vehicle and when he was found in a pool of blood, he was seen clutching to an icepicker which he might have been attempting to use to defend himself.

The police investigations into this matter continues.
