Guyana is at an important fiscal juncture says newly appointed Senior Minister with responsibility for finance Dr Ashni Singh who sees his appointment as critical to this juncture.

Dr Singh took the oath of office on Thursday afternoon and will be sworn in as one of four non-elected members of parliament at a later date.

Speaking to reporters following his swearing in, Dr Singh described the opportunity to serve as minister as a “huge privilege,” at a time when he said the “Guyanese and global economy are facing tremendous challenges not least as a result of the ongoing covid 19 pandemic”.

Singh’s appointment will ensure the government has the full complement of skills that will advance its agenda President Irfaan Ali said, “we are on a road to transformation and that transformation requires a multifaceted team,” Ali stated

His expertise and oversight will include “projects, programmes and policies to stimulate growth,” a statement from the Office of the President stated.
