A Guyanese accountant who spent approximately two decades working with prominent law firm Hughes, Fields and Stoby (HFS) was found unconscious in a room at a transit hotel in India and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Racquel Olivia Chandni Seecharran, a Guyanese national and long-serving member of the HFS team.

According to reports, Seecharran had travelled overseas for medical reasons. She arrived at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru from London on a Virgin Atlantic flight at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15. She was scheduled to continue her journey to Mangaluru by IndiGo flight at 2:35 p.m. the following day.

The Hindu reported that Seecharran was staying at a transit/day hotel in the arrival city-side area of Terminal 2 when she was found unconscious on Wednesday morning.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for security at KIA, said that at approximately 10:30 a.m., as her scheduled hotel checkout time approached, a receptionist attempted to contact her by telephone. She did not answer or respond.

Hotel staff subsequently went to her room and found her lying unconscious. The airport medical team was called and provided assistance before she was transported by ambulance to a nearby private hospital.

At approximately 12:22 p.m., a doctor examined Seecharran and conducted an ECG. With no pulse detected, she was pronounced dead at approximately 1:08 p.m.

The incident was reported to local police, who are conducting the required medico-legal procedures and further investigations. The circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been established.

At HFS, colleagues remembered Seecharran as a valued team member who had become like family to the firm during her approximately 20 years of service.

Her family has not yet issued a public statement.
