Inability to access lands already paid for; a headache for CH&PA

An aerial view of a section of the Experiment Housing Scheme in Region 5 where infrastructure works were done to allow access to housing lots

During an outreach in Region 5, West Coast Berbice on Wednesday, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues spearheaded a process that saw more than four hundred persons having access to their house lots in Experiment Housing Scheme.

One of the major issues the ministry continues to face countrywide is the burden of being unable to have infrastructural works done in a timely and speedy manner to have allottees access those lands after paying for them.

It was reported that these challenges have been said to be associated with an inability of contractors to execute works due to unpredictable weather coupled with the difficulty in the procurement of materials needed to execute the infrastructural works.

In Region 5 on Wednesday, the more than four hundred persons who got the opportunity to access their lands will see them now being able to move ahead with the construction of their homes.

Minister Rodrigues speaks with technical staff from the Ministry’s Regional Office as she visited the location on Wednesday

Minister Rodrigues explained that the persons should have been able to access their lands earlier, but the challenges were beyond the control of the ministry. She did speak of the sourcing of materials and the unpredictable weather pattern.

With an investment of GUY $455 million for infrastructure, the works which commenced in 2021 are said to be more than 80 percent complete. With the dry season currently being experienced, it is believed that the work will be accelerating a little more.

The Minister was accompanied on her visit by a number of technical persons from within the Ministry of Housing and Water.
