Enforcement begins TODAY on daytime vending along Sheriff St

March 17 2026

The Ministry of Public Works has announced the start of strict enforcement measures targeting daytime vending along the Sheriff Street to Mandela Avenue corridor in Georgetown.

The move follows a notice issued on March 16 outlining a daytime clearance policy aimed at keeping the thoroughfare free of obstructions.

Authorities have since acknowledged businesses that have already complied and are urging others to do so without delay.

Under the policy, all trucks, caravans, and roadside stalls must be removed between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Vending activities will only be permitted outside of these hours.

The Ministry warned that any structures or items found obstructing roadways, shoulders, or pedestrian pathways during the restricted period will be removed to maintain order and ensure the free flow of traffic.

The Ministry further clarified that the restriction applies across the entire roadway reserve—from property line to property line on both sides.

This means that caravans positioned behind sidewalks or near roadside fences must also be removed during the specified hours.

The Ministry is appealing to vendors and business owners for full cooperation as it moves to enforce the new measures.
