Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Wednesday met with the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Resident Representative for Guyana, Ms. Katy Thompson, at his Regent Street office to discuss continued collaboration in disaster risk reduction, flood management, and climate-resilient agriculture.
Minister Mustapha commended the UNDP for its longstanding partnership and technical assistance, emphasizing its role in helping Guyana strengthen its ability to manage climate-related risks within the agriculture sector.
The meeting reviewed key ongoing initiatives, including the Building Resilience through Climate-SMART Agriculture while Promoting a Healthier Environment project, which supports farmers in adapting to extreme weather; the Disaster Risk Management and Early Warning for Agriculture project, focused on improving preparedness for floods and droughts; and the Gender-Responsive Climate and Agriculture Linkages for Sustainable Land Restoration project, which promotes women’s participation in climate-smart, sustainable farming.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Minister Mustapha said Guyana will continue working closely with international partners to safeguard livelihoods and strengthen agricultural resilience.
