Over 1,300 New Teachers Graduate from CPCE

Approximately 1,345 new teachers graduated from the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) on Friday, marking one of the largest cohorts in the institution’s history.

The ceremony, held at the Providence National Stadium under the theme “Empowering Educators, Inspiring Futures: A Legacy of Excellence,” celebrated the resilience and determination of a new generation of educators—many of whom completed their training during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag, delivering the keynote address, commended the graduates for their perseverance and underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that every classroom across Guyana is staffed with a trained teacher.

She announced that following this year’s graduation, the proportion of trained teachers in the hinterland regions will rise to nearly 92 percent, advancing the ministry’s goal of achieving full national coverage.

Minister Parag highlighted the critical role of education in Guyana’s transformation, emphasizing that national progress depends on an evolving and capable teaching force. She encouraged the graduates to apply their training with purpose and creativity, noting that effective teaching requires continuous learning and innovation.

This year’s class includes 388 graduates in Early Childhood Education, 384 in Primary Education, 303 in Secondary (TVET, GTE, and TTE), and 35 in specialized fields. CPCE reported a 94.25 percent matriculation rate, reflecting improvements in training and student support systems. Since 2020, more than 6,000 teachers have graduated from the college, while another 1,456 students are currently enrolled across its 20 satellite centers nationwide.
