Caribbean Sport Leaders Gather in Guyana for CANOC AGM & Workshop 2025

In a significant gathering for the region’s sporting community, the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) hosted its XXIII General Assembly and XIII Annual Workshop at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre in Georgetown on Friday evening.

With 28 countries represented and over 100 delegates in attendance, the event brought together key figures in regional and global sports.
Notable attendees include CANOC President Keith Joseph, Honorary Life President Steve Stoute, Jimena Saldaña, Secretary General of Panam Sports, and Camilo Pérez López Moreira, President of ODESUR.

Other prominent figures such as Luis Mejía Oviedo, President of Centro Caribe Sports, and Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, are also participating, along with Catherine Forde, Vice President of TAFISA, and Dr. Roy McCree, Dean of the Faculty of Sport at The University of the West Indies.

This year’s theme, “Charting the Future of Authentic Caribbean Sport,” emphasizes collaboration, good governance, and sustainable development within the region’s sporting framework. The two-day event followed the successful Olympic Solidarity Financial Management Workshop, supported by Panam Sports, which saw 32 participants from 19 countries come together to reinforce their commitment to transparency and accountability in financial governance.

As Caribbean sport leaders engaged in discussions and workshops, the focus remained on building a stronger, more unified sporting community that prioritizes the growth and sustainability of sports across the Caribbean. This gathering not only marks a pivotal moment for CANOC but also sets the stage for a collaborative future in Caribbean sports.
