Cuban champion Liván Martínez concluded a three-month assignment with Guyana’s national table-tennis programme by challenging players to adopt a more demanding training culture.
Martínez provided high-level sparring, technical instruction and tactical preparation through a partnership between the Guyana Table Tennis Association and its Cuban counterpart.
He encouraged players to embrace twice-daily sessions, physical conditioning, match simulations and year-round preparation. The GTTA’s revised performance framework will assess national players based on attendance, fitness and commitment to structured programmes.
GTTA President Godfrey Munroe said the exchange gave local athletes a clearer understanding of the standards required in international competition.
