Glen Secures Double Gold on Day Two of Nationals

Adanya Glen secures her second gold medal with girl’s under-20 800 metres win.
Adanya Glen from North Georgetown clinched her second gold medal at the 2026 National Schools’ Championships, which continued on Thursday at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora.
After an outstanding performance in the 1500 meters on Wednesday, where she took home the gold, Glen returned to dominate the girl’s under-20 800 meters, finishing in 2:22.59 seconds. Alkila Blucher from Christianburg Wismar secured second place with a time of 2:31.41 seconds, while Kaymayra Lacon from Richard Ishmael finished third in 2:36.57 seconds.
In the boy’s under-20 800 meters, the crowd was on its feet as Kaidon Persaud of Linden Technical Institute (LTI) crossed the finish line in a remarkable 1:59.64 seconds, earning the gold. Jonathon Bristol from Government Technical Institute (GTI) took silver with a time of 2:01.54 seconds, while Quency Marks closely followed, finishing in 2:01.68 seconds.
On the field, Duel Europe from St. Stanislaus College triumphed in the boy’s under-20 long jump, soaring to a distance of 6.82 meters. David Williams from Vreed En Hoop Secondary earned silver with a leap of 6.79 meters, and Nichol Nieuelder took third with 6.30 meters.
In the girl’s under-17 discus event, Athalia Simmons of Bartica Secondary claimed gold with a throw of 26.86 meters, outperforming Jasmin Sultan from New Silver City, who finished second at 21.67 meters. Jada Sampson from East Ruimveldt Secondary took third with a throw of 21.42 meters.
Additional highlights included Mattania Fordyce from President’s College winning the boy’s under-20 high jump at 1.85 meters and Kenetha Fraser from Christianburg Wismar claiming gold in the girl’s under-20 long jump with a jump of 5.24 meters. Orlando Thomas from Maruanau Secondary won the boy’s under-17 800 meters in 2:04.39 seconds, while Ayesha Austin took the girl’s equivalent in 2:36.72 seconds.
The excitement continues, with the final day featuring both the 200 and 400 meters races at the 2026 National Schools’ Championships.
