The charred remains of one person were discovered following a devastating fire that destroyed two homes and damaged a third on Lamaha Street, Newtown, Kitty, Georgetown last evening.

The Guyana Fire Service said firefighters responded to a report of a fire at Lot 89 Lamaha Street, with crews from the Campbellville, Headquarters and Eccles Fire Stations arriving promptly and immediately commencing firefighting operations.

When firefighters arrived, three homes were already engulfed in flames. Despite their coordinated efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further, two houses were completely destroyed while a third sustained partial damage.

During the emergency response, firefighters were informed that one occupant was unaccounted for. After the fire was extinguished, a thorough search of the premises led to the discovery of the person’s charred remains.

The Guyana Fire Service extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire.
