Police in Region Eight recovered 800 grams of suspected cannabis on Wednesday during a routine foot patrol in the Central Mahdia area and at the Mahdia Arcade.

Between 11:10 hrs and 13:15 hrs, two police ranks were conducting searches of individuals for illegal firearms, ammunition, narcotics, and wanted persons. While no illegal items were found on the persons searched, further investigations led to the discovery of several suspicious items in the vicinity.

During a search of the surrounding area at the Mahdia Arcade, ranks uncovered three bulky plastic bags.

Two of the bags contained a total of six transparent plastic parcels and numerous small ziplock bags filled with leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be cannabis. A third bag also held a quantity of suspected cannabis. Additionally, another bag was found containing cannabis and a package labeled “Gummy Cannabis Flower.”

The items were located in an abandoned yard, hidden inside an old refrigerator and a black garbage bag.

The suspected narcotics were photographed at the scene and taken to the Mahdia Police Station, where they were weighed and confirmed to total 800 grams. Investigations are ongoing.
