
December 10 2024 – A 27-year-old truck driver was remanded to prison on Tuesday, accused of the attempted murder of his wife, Claurine Stoll, in a violent attack at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The accused, Navin Stoll, of Track JS Swan, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was represented by attorney Ganesh Hira. Stoll was remanded to prison until January 10, 2025.
The incident, which occurred on December 4, 2024, was captured on video and showed the accused allegedly stabbing his wife in the presence of their young child. The harrowing footage has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage across the country.
Police confirmed that during a video and audio interview, Stoll opted to exercise his right to remain silent.
Meanwhile, investigators obtained statements from the victim, Claurine Stoll, who remains hospitalized. She provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the attack.
According to the prosecutor, the couple had been separated for some time due to Navin Stoll’s alleged pattern of verbal and physical abuse.
Claurine had reportedly left him in an effort to escape the toxic relationship.
The brutal attack has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls for stronger measures to address domestic violence in Guyana.
