Western Union slip leads police to driver- family holds vigil

Relatives of 21 Year Old Jonathan Joshua James last (Sunday) evening revisited the location on Aubrey Barker Road South Ruimveldt where he was involved in a hit and run accident as he was riding his bicycle.

Thirty-Five-year-old Kaymar Ifill of Lot 154 Critchlow Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens was said to be unlicensed at the time of the accident. Police sources stated that after hitting down James, she removed all documents from the vehicle PMM 8031 that could link it back to the driver or owner and then fled the scene leaving the vehicle in a trench.

She however did not cater for the police finding her based on a Western Union transaction with her particulars on it which remained in the vehicle. She was arrested on Tuesday, two days after the accident.

Ifill is expected to be charged today for causing death by dangerous driving, failure to render assistance at an accident, unlicensed driver, breach of insurance and dangerous driving.

After he was struck down, James was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state and up to the time of his death on Monday, he did not regain consciousness.

The relatives of the man are calling on the police to conduct a thorough investigation and to ensure that justice is served in the death of the young man.

Last evening, the relatives and close friends of the deceased including his siblings and mother held a candle-light vigil in his honor.

Despite being struck down on Sunday last and passing away at the hospital the next day, it was only on Friday that relatives of the man became aware that James was dead.

This was after the police issued a photograph calling for the public’s assistance to identify the ‘accident victim’ who was laying in a morgue for four-five days.
