Venezuelan Women Granted Bail on Wounding Charges

February 11 2025 – Two Venezuelan nationals, Nahomi Leon and Yhorceichye Maribi Diaz Banilla, were each granted bail of $50,000 after being slapped with wounding charges.

The pair appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts recently, charged with unlawfully wounding Nancy Leon during a confrontation on January 31, 2025, at North Road, Georgetown.

They were brought before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.

When the charge was read to the Spanish-speaking defendants, Nahomi Leon initially pleaded guilty, while Banilla maintained her innocence. However, after providing her account of the incident, the magistrate entered a not-guilty plea on Nahomi Leon’s behalf.

According to Nahomi Leon’s explanation, the altercation occurred around 9:30 PM as she was leaving a disco.

She claimed that Nancy Leon approached her and provocatively asked, “Are you fake?” to which she replied, “Yes.”

Nancy Leon allegedly responded, “If you are fake, let’s fight,” before advancing toward her aggressively.

Nahomi Leon admitted to pushing and punching Nancy Leon in self-defence and claimed that Nancy Leon threw a bottle at her.

In retaliation, Nahomi Leon allegedly picked up the same bottle and used it to injure Nancy Leon.

The prosecution did not oppose bail but raised concerns about all parties residing at the same address, which could potentially lead to further conflicts.

Considering the circumstances, Magistrate Mc Gusty granted bail at $50,000 for each defendant and ordered them to have no contact with Nancy Leon.

Additionally, they were placed on a bond to maintain the peace.

The case has been adjourned to March 7, 2025, when further proceedings will take place.
