Reg 4 Primary School Teachers Engage in Transformative Singing Workshop

November 19, 2024 —The Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit concluded a dynamic two-day workshop titled “Content and Methodology: The Essentials of Good Singing Pt. 1” for primary school teachers from Region Four last friday.

Held at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD), the event aimed to equip educators with practical singing techniques and foster a deeper love for music among students.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Joel Gonsalves, Education Officer for Music, emphasized the transformative role of music in education, noting its power to inspire, uplift, and build connections. Mr. Gonsalves outlined the workshop’s objectives, focusing on integrating music into a blended curriculum and encouraging teachers to actively engage their students. He praised the dedication of the participants for their commitment to nurturing students’ musical talents.

Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Unit of Allied Arts, highlighted the workshop’s alignment with the Ministry of Education’s Five Priority Schools Programme. He stressed the importance of music in providing a well-rounded education by enhancing cognitive development, promoting emotional well-being, and fostering social connections. Mr. Fraser called for continued investment in music education, recognizing its impact on overall student growth.

The workshop concluded with a special presentation of four original songs composed by participating teachers, showcasing their creativity and dedication to strengthening music education.

The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to integrating music into the school curriculum, recognizing its capacity to inspire and enrich the lives of students throughout the country.
