Major Road Improvements Set for Supply- Soesdyke

November 19 2024 — The Ministry of Public Works has announced the commencement of significant road improvement works along the East Bank Public Road, spanning the area between Supply and Soesdyke.
This major upgrade project is being carried out by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and aims to enhance traffic flow and safety along the critical corridor connecting Good Success to Timehri.
According to the Ministry, in preparation for these works, a key aspect of the project’s early stages will involve clearing encumbrances from the roadway.
This step is essential to ensure construction activities proceed efficiently and safely. Specific activities to be undertaken include the relocation of utilities, such as those managed by the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), Guyana Water Inc. (GWI), and One Communications (formerly GTT), along with the relocation of various communication cables. Additionally, the project will involve the reconstruction of Culvert C-28 located near St. Mary’s Primary School in Soesdyke.
The Ministry has issued a formal notification to owners of businesses, vendors, billboard operators, and those with signs, materials, and derelict vehicles situated within the declared Right-of-Way (RoW)—defined as the width from fence line to fence line—to make arrangements for their removal.
The Ministry is offering assistance to relocate or dispose of affected shops, vending structures, derelicts, and signs upon request.
To minimize disruptions, the Ministry has assured property owners and residents that any ramps or access points affected by construction will be reinstated, and temporary access solutions will be provided throughout the duration of the works.
Stakeholder consultations regarding the project have already been held on May 3, May 31, August 3, and October 16, 2024.
Stakeholders with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out no later than November 10, 2024, using the available Grievance Redress Mechanism hotline numbers: +592 620 2135 (Ministry of Public Works Environmental Officer) or +592 728-2031 (Consulting Engineers SHELADIA).
The Ministry thanks the public for its cooperation as it works to improve the East Bank Demerara corridor and ensure a safer, more efficient transportation network.
