November 18, 2024 — Guyana has once again distinguished itself in the CXC® Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, earning top placements among candidates throughout the region. This year, the nation achieved top-ten regional rankings in 13 different subject areas, highlighting the academic prowess of Guyanese students.

A statement from the Ministry of Education indicated that in 2024, an impressive 259 candidates earned eight Grade 1s or more in the exams, while 70 students achieved twelve Grade 1s or higher — a notable increase from 50 in 2023.

Further showcasing the upward trend in academic achievement, the number of students securing fourteen or more Grade 1s rose to 33, compared to 29 in 2023 and 28 in 2022. These accomplishments underscore Guyana’s sustained focus on educational excellence and student success.

The Ministry of Education’s ongoing commitment since 2020 has been to provide equitable access to quality education for all students across the country. Key initiatives have included distributing free high-quality textbooks, extending the reach of the Learning Channel to remote areas, and reintroducing the ‘Because We Care’ cash grant program to support families. These measures have helped remove barriers to educational resources, enabling more students to reach their full potential.

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, expressed pride in the nation’s achievements, stating, “These results reflect the dedication of our students and the Ministry’s relentless efforts to raise the standards of education across Guyana. We remain focused on creating a learning environment that promotes access and equity, allowing our students to excel both regionally and globally.”

The Ministry of Education extends heartfelt congratulations to all CSEC candidates, their families, and dedicated teachers. The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that elevate the nation’s educational standards and empower students to achieve even greater milestones.
