Cannabis Found During Police Patrol at Big Creek Backdam, NWD

Police in Regional Division #1 are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis found during a patrol at Big Creek Backdam, North West District, on Monday, November 24, 2025, around 16:30 hrs.
According to reports, ranks stopped a motorcar in the area which was being driven by a 38-year-old man and occupied by a 55-year-old man, both gold miners from Big Creek Backdam. A search was conducted on the men and the vehicle, but nothing illegal was initially found.
The report further stated that during a subsequent inspection of their belongings, police examined a haversack belonging to the 55-year-old passenger. Inside a pair of boots within the bag, ranks discovered two transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The 55-year-old miner was arrested and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station along with the suspected narcotics. The substance was weighed in his presence and amounted to 46.1 grams. It has since been lodged as evidence.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
