The families of two victims who died in last Friday’s tragic accident along the No. 62 Village Public Road, Corentyne, have been assured by the Guyana Police Force that a comprehensive investigation is underway.
On Monday, Superintendent Guy Nurse, Deputy Commander of Regional Division 6, led a team of officers to the homes of the deceased—16-year-old Jodea Seline and 31-year-old Jerome Bernard—to offer condolences and update relatives on the status of the probe.
During the visits, Superintendent Nurse extended condolences on behalf of the Force and reaffirmed its commitment to uncovering the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
“ASP Hooke, who is in charge of traffic, also gave them some words of comfort and also assured them that a thorough investigation will be done and they’ll be updated regularly into the progression of those investigations,” Nurse told BIG SMITH News Watch.
Seline, a student of the Central Corentyne Secondary School, and Bernard, a teacher at the same institution, both succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. The crash occurred at around 18:05 hrs on Friday when minibus BAB 7570, which was transporting students and teachers returning from the Regional Sports Championship, crashed along the public road.
Sixteen other passengers were injured and received medical attention. Police say updates will continue to be provided as the investigation progresses.
