Opposition takes protest action to Linden

August 4 2026
The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) and the Joint Opposition are currently staging a peaceful demonstration outside Watooka House in Linden, calling for the dismissal of Ministers Juan Edghill and Deodat Indar.
Protesters are also calling for the immediate election of the Regional Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the Region.
The demonstration coincides with a scheduled Region Ten public day being hosted by Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo at Watooka House. Jagdeo is in the area conducting outreach activities and is accompanied by members of Cabinet.
Protesters have used the gathering to renew their demands for political accountability, including the removal of Edghill and Indar from their ministerial positions.
The demonstration comes amid continued public and political criticism following the MV Barima tragedy, with opposition groups maintaining pressure on the Government over its handling of issues surrounding the disaster.
