May 6 2025– Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Monday toured the cutting-edge Agriculture and Innovation Entrepreneurship Programme (AIEP) Hydroponic Farm at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice, highlighting the government’s push toward sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.

The facility, launched during the 2023 Agri-Investment Forum and Expo, is designed to promote high-tech, sustainable farming practices while encouraging youth involvement in agribusiness.

During his visit, Minister Mustapha inspected ongoing preparations, including testing of Dutch buck, a leafy vegetable that will be among the first crops cultivated at the site. The initial plant transfer into the hydroponic system is scheduled for Wednesday, coinciding with the first round of system testing.

Minister Mustapha praised the initiative as a significant step in advancing agriculture through innovation and collaboration. “This project demonstrates what’s possible when we combine technology, investment, and young talent to create a resilient agricultural sector,” he said.

The AIEP Hydroponic Farm is poised to serve as a regional model for modern agriculture, offering training programs and supporting national food security efforts.
