February 8 2025-Β  Earlier today, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha handed over four mini-excavators to four Neighborhood Democratic Councils in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).

The machines are each valued at approximately $14 million and will be used to carry out drainage works in the residential communities.

Minister Mustapha disclosed that all ten Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in Region Five now each have access to their own excavator, thanks to the Government of Guyana representing an investment of over $50 million.

Minister Mustapha mphasized the importance of these machines in advancing the comprehensive drainage systems being developed nationwide.

He further noted that the initiative is part of the Government’s broader efforts to modernize and strengthen the country’s drainage infrastructure, ensuring better resilience against flooding.

The NDCs that benefited from today’s handing over were Blairmont/Gilderland, Rosignol/Zeelust, Union/ Narstight and Bath/Woodleypark.
