The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has issued a statement to clarify reports circulating in the public domain regarding its ongoing operation in Region One.

According to CANU Director James Singh, the unit had informed the Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, as well as other senior police officers, about the operation in advance.

Singh emphasized that the Commissioner of Police had offered support to CANU if needed.

The statement underlined the close working relationship CANU maintains with all sister agencies as part of the Joint Services.

CANU regularly conducts joint operations and engages in information sharing with these agencies to strengthen its efforts in combating drug trafficking in Guyana.

CANU reiterated its commitment to fulfilling its mandate and continuing its collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies in the fight against narcotics.
