A man who the court heard dealt his ex-girlfriend several lashes to her head and about the body with a hockey stick after she refused to have sex with him, was on Thursday remanded to prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Fabian Crawford, a labourer, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between February 18, 2022, and February 19, 2022, at Laing Avenue Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded a woman with intent to maim, disfigure or disable her.

According to the reports, Crawford and the complainant shared a relationship that subsequently ended in January 2022 due to him being abusive.

On February 18, last, it was reported that Crawford broke the woman’s phone which he had bought for her.

The court heard the woman went to Crawford’s home for the money to repair her phone and it was then, he asked her to have sex with him in order for her to get the money.

When the woman refused to have sex with Crawford, he became angry and dealt her several lashes about her body and head with a hockey stick.

The matter was then reported and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged.

The Magistrate after listening to the facts remanded Crawford to prison until March 9, 2022.
