CANU seizes ecstasy in Turkeyen operation; one jailed, one on bail

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) has seized a quantity of ecstasy following an operation conducted in the vicinity of Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara.
According to CANU, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, officers acting on information received intercepted a motor vehicle in the area. A search of the vehicle uncovered several ziplock bags containing ecstasy. The narcotics were later weighed and found to amount to 164 grams.
Devon Grant and Lily Wills were arrested at the scene and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the seized drugs. Both were subsequently charged with possession of ecstasy for the purpose of trafficking.
The two accused appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Grant pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and fined $30,000.
Wills, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000. Her matter has been adjourned to January 9, 2026, for further proceedings.
