MOU Signed for USAID-Funded Caribbean Agricultural Project

Earlier today, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha attended the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony and Implementation Update for the USAID-funded Caribbean Agricultural Productivity Improvement Activity (CAPA) at the Grand Coastal Hotel on the East Coast of Demerara.

The event marks a pivotal moment in the region’s efforts to bolster agricultural productivity and market efficiency.

The CAPA project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Improving Economies for Stronger Communities (IESC), aims to enhance agricultural practices across the Caribbean, with a particular focus on Guyana.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Minister Mustapha emphasized the significance of this initiative in advancing Guyana’s food security goals, boosting agricultural productivity, and improving the livelihoods of farmers and communities. He highlighted CAPA as a prime example of the impact that international cooperation can have in addressing local agricultural challenges.

The $5.3 million initiative is designed to support farmers and stakeholders in the fruit and vegetable industry by promoting market-driven agricultural practices and technologies. This support will enable them to more effectively access both domestic and regional markets, contributing to the broader goal of sustainable agricultural development in the Caribbean.
