The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Monday signed a five-year agreement with the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to improve the delivery of quality services.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) will see the chamber supporting the police in building capacity while improving relationships in critical areas such as customer relations, security management, financial management, accounting training, scholarships for youths and other support services and resources that will aid the progression of the Force.

GCCI will similarly assist the GPF with equipment procurement, community relations and other activities and other programmes.

The MoA was signed in the GCCI’s Boardroom, located at Waterloo Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown by Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ (ag), Mr. Calvin Brutus and GCCI’s Junior Vice President/Chairman of the Security and Governance Committee, Mr. Kester Hutson.

“We are very proud to be at this stage of signing this MoA, which speaks to increasing the relationship between the Guyana Police Force and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” Kester Hutson declared.

Additionally, Mr. Hutson pointed out that the GCCI looks forward to partnering with the Police Force in a strategic way over the next five years with the aim being to improve the overall quality of service being provided to members of the public across Guyana.

Deputy Commissioner Administration (ag.) Mr. Calvin Brutus also lauded the collaboration between the Force and the Chamber and indicated that a main pillar of the Force’s strategic plan is partnership, which is critical to the vision of the GPF.

Mr. Brutus also alluded to the fact that the GPF has had engagements with the GCCI in the past and he is pleased that, moving forward the strengthening of these bonds of friendship and partnership will be done in a more structured way and the signing of the MoA is testament to this commitment.

“This is a valuable partnership that the GPF cannot ignore as an organization,” Mr. Brutus stressed that the GCCI is a prominent agency within our society and is one that has a vested interest in security, just like the GPF which is the main stakeholder, and therefore this partnership and collaboration are very important elements in successfully achieving the mandate of the Force in terms of service and protection to the public.

GCCI’s Executive Director, Mr. Richard Rambarran and Secretary/Chairperson of the Green Economy Committee, Ms. Shaleeza Shaw along with Head of the Force’s Strategic Planning Unit, W/Assistant Superintendent, Nicola Kendall and Head of the Corporate Communications Unit, Mr. Mark Ramotar were among those who witnessed the signing of the partnership agreement.
