DEAD: Dayle Jordan

A 51-year-old truck driver was on Wednesday charged with causing the death of a motorcyclist during an accident on the Yarrowkabra Public Road, Soesdkye/Linden Highway.

Suresh Latchman of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (WCB) appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrate’s Courts.

Latchman pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on January 8, 2021, at Soesdkye/Linden Highway, he drove his motor truck in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of 36-year-old Dayle Jordan of La Retraite, West Bank Demerara.

Latchman was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released on $300,000 bail on the causing death by dangerous driving charge.

According to reports, Latchman was proceeding north along the western side of the said road when Jordan along with a pillion rider allegedly overtook a car and ended up in the path of the truck.

Jordan along with the pillion rider was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The pillion rider was admitted to the hospital.
Police said the driver of the truck was found to be above the legal limit of alcohol with .77% and .70% micrograms.

The limit is a breath alcohol concentration of .35 % micrograms of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of breath.
