Reg Six rice farmers receive Over $862M in relief

Hundreds of rice farmers in Region Six on today received relief cheques as the Government continued its support for the rice industry.
The distribution was led by Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha and fulfills a commitment made by President Dr. Irfaan Ali during a consultation with rice farmers at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in April.
The relief programme was introduced to assist rice producers as the industry faces increasing global challenges, including rising production costs, higher input prices and changing international market conditions.
Under the initiative, farmers cultivating 50 acres or less are receiving $10,000 per acre.
In Region Six, 1,484 rice farmers cultivating a combined 74,314 acres are expected to benefit from a total of $862,933,550 under the programme.
