Uncle, 17, accused of murdering 12-year-old niece remanded.

The 17-year-old accused of murdering his 12-year-old niece, of Amanda Smith has been remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre.
He appeared in the Lethem Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 9.
Amanda’s uncle had claimed that she struck her head on a wall and died after he ‘tripped’ her, after which he proceeded to place her body in her parents’ backyard.
An autopsy revealed that the 12-year-old had suffered extensive injuries that did not occur as the suspect claimed. She died from brain hemorrhage, which was caused by blunt trauma to the head and face, compounded by compression injuries to the neck.
Amanda’s 14-year-old brother found her body on April 22, in their parents’ Aishalton, South Rupununi backyard.
He allegedly saw the 17-year-old uncle fleeing the scene.
The accused was arrested several days later.
