Kidackie Amsterdam, 46, of Buxton, East Coast Demerara, appeared today at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where he faced charges of using a computer system to encourage or incite the commission of a criminal offence against the President of Guyana.

This charge is in violation of Section 18(1)(c) of the Cyber Crime Act, No. 16 of 2018, and contrary to Section 18(2) of the same act.

Amsterdam, who was apprehended by CID officers on Tuesday, stood before Magistrate Faith McGusty at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail set at two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000).

The case has been adjourned until June 10, 2024, for the presentation of statements.

Additional charges are expected to be filed against Amsterdam as the investigation continues.
