Family seeks answers as Kitty resident still missing after MV Barima disaster

July 21 2026
Tendhi Sanford, a 38-year-old resident of Lot 55 Station Street, Kitty, is among the persons who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His relative, Ravena, told BIG Smith News Watch that Sanford was returning to Port Kaituma to resume work in the backdam when the vessel sank.
She said Sanford called his mother as the MV Barima was departing to let her know that he was leaving.
The family has not heard from him since the tragedy and is appealing for any information that could assist in locating him as the search continues for those missing from the MV Barima.
