Magistrate issues arrest warrants for 30 more curfew violators
Ranks of the Guyana Police Force have been instructed to arrest 30 club-goers who failed to attend the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday to answer charges relating to breaching the nationwide COVID-19 curfew. On Friday morning, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly was forced to issue warrants after these persons failed to attend a court hearing.
Wanted are: Candace Williams, Tikya Marcus, Tiovn Ming, Shirkah Cameron, Ashanti Marcus, Mark Collins, Alavida Barker, Tamika Fraser, Brian Bacchus, Frank Hugh, Jemell Maxwell, Tamara Dellon, Scarno Sinclair, Faith Forbes, Elijah Forbes, Chaitram Persaud, Angel St’Clair, Melanie Jones, Susan Paul, Malika Marslow, Paul Dennis, Sofia Sanchez, Randy Docks, Candance Williams, July Williams, Shank Williams, Dennis Jones, Martisha Stephen, Dequan Durant, and Susan Smith.
It is alleged that they breached the COVID-19 curfew on April 4, 2021, at Kitty, Georgetown. The matter comes up again on June 11, 2021. Last week, Magistrate Daly issued arrest warrants for 21 individuals for their alleged breach of the COVID-19 curfew.
Also wanted are: Eric Moses, Akisha Forrester, Natalia Cush, Jason Bacchus, Elizabeth Payne, Aaliyah Harding, Jonela Singh, Mark Jones, Lisa Smith, Faith Bacchus, Sarah Tucker, Selidyn Prescott, Abiola Lackno, Abiki Moses, Shania Corter, Tiffany Anthony, Roger James, Mark Blackman, Carl Adams, Tanesa Joseph, and Tasha Payne all failed to show up in court to answer the charges.
According to the Police Prosecutor, these persons were arrested by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who were on patrol duties in Georgetown to ensure that night clubs and bars were adhering to the curfew measures to safeguard against the spread of COVID-19.
On their first stop, the ranks visited Kairos Bar at Charlotte Street Georgetown. While there, it was observed that the bar was closed. However, loud noise was heard coming from inside. As such, the ranks cordon off the area. A rank knocked at the bar’s door, and after 10 minutes the 21 persons listed above came strolling out of the premises.
They were told that they were in breach of the curfew, arrested, and charged.
Over 100 party-goers were over the Easter holiday arrested for breaching the COVID-19 regulations. Many videos and pictures are circulating via social media with the National COVID-19 Task Force, along with members of the Joint Service rounding up party-goers and loading them onto GDF buses and other vehicles.
In several of the videos, persons could be seen behaving in a disorderly manner while on the bus. The Police is appealing to citizens to adhere to the curfew and to further report breaches to the COVID-19 Task Force on hotlines: 626-6674, 624-3067, 624-2819, and toll-free (GTT) 0180.
