OFF TO JAIL: Joel Rodrigues

Cuban National Joel Rodrigues who confessed to killing his girlfriend, Tara Krishanran and her 11- year-old daughter Larissa Persaud was today slapped with two murder charges.

Rodrigues this morning appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charges which stated that on December 26, 2020, at Princes Street Lodge, he murdered Tara Krishanran and Larissa Persaud. He was remanded to prison.

The bodies of the victims were discovered at their Prince’s Street, Lodge home on Boxing Night. The man who was on the run was later captured in Linden.

This publication understands that the man had related that he and the Krishanran were imbibing on the said night at the home they shared.

They were joined by a male friend of Krishanran who subsequently left. It was reported that the late victim then informed Rodrigues that she was leaving to visit a relative and an argument ensued.

The man is said to have then murdered her and the child who witnessed the act. This publication understands that the man implied that he killed the child to prevent her from testifying against him.

A post mortem examination conducted by Doctor Nehaul Singh gives the cause of death for Krishnaran’s as blunt trauma to the head.

Meanwhile, her daughter’s cause of death was given as, incise wound to the neck and blunt trauma to the head.
