“Minutes” sentenced to six years for drug trafficking

March 20, 2026
Shemroy Robertson, also known as “Minutes,” was on Thursday sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and fined GYD $1.734 million after being convicted on cocaine trafficking-related charges.
Robertson appeared before Justice Priscilla Chandra-Hanif at the High Court, where he was found guilty of possession of 1.156 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The conviction stems from a January 2016 operation conducted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU). During a pursuit, Robertson reportedly discarded a bag containing 139 pellets of cocaine while attempting to evade law enforcement. He was later apprehended by CANU officers while hiding at a residence on Mandela Avenue.
Authorities noted that Robertson is already serving a two-year prison sentence for aiding in the trafficking of 1.174 kilograms of cannabis. That conviction followed a separate CANU operation carried out on June 17, 2021, along the Ann’s Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
In addition, Robertson had previously been charged alongside three other individuals in March 2017 in connection with drug-related offences; however, those charges were later dismissed.
