Following a trial in the Demerara Sexual Offences Court last month, 68-Y-O Isaiah Hutson, was found guilty of raping a three-year-old female child. On Tuesday morning, he was sentenced to life in prison.

Trial Judge Sandil Kissoon discussed the seriousness of the crime, the frequency of sexual offences against minors, including rape, and the fact that Hutson abused his position of trust while imposing the custodial punishment on the convicted sex offender.

The Judge decided that the convict should receive the maximum sentence of life in prison in light of this. Before he is eligible for parole, Hutson must serve 18 years behind bars.

Attorney-at-Law Ronald Bostwick represented Hutson, while State Counsel Abiola Lowe and State Counsel Yonika Rowland headed the prosecution’s case.

The old man had sex with the three-year-old girl at a community on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) between January and February 2019. According to the court documents, he forced the girl to perform oral sex on him and pushed his fingers into her vagina.

To help with his rehabilitation, Justice Kissoon ordered that the prisoner receive counseling and therapy intended especially for sex offenders and pedophiles.

The Judge further ordered that the rape survivour and her mother get continuous psychosocial support from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
