Brian Richards, the man accused of murdering popular entertainer and educator Kirwyn Mars, also known as “Sir Mars,” has been committed to stand trial in the High Court.

On Friday, June 27, 2025, Magistrate Sunil Scarce made the ruling at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court, committing Richards to face trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

Richards is charged with the murder of Mars, which occurred on May 7, 2023, at Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Mars was well-known in both the education and entertainment sectors, and his death had sent shockwaves across the country.

The case will now move to the High Court, where Richards will answer to the capital offence.
