Victoria man killed at Toroparo Backdam

A 46-year-old miner died on Wednesday after allegedly being wounded during an incident at Toroparo Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, three days earlier.
Dead is Sceon Elias of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara.
Police said the incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, when Elias was allegedly wounded during an incident involving another 46-year-old miner from Four Miles, Bartica.
Elias was initially taken to a medical facility at Toroparo, where he was treated for a laceration to his head. He was subsequently transferred to the Bartica Regional Hospital for further treatment.
However, at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, Elias succumbed to his injuries.
The other miner is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Police have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack as investigations continue.
