Thirty-year-old Aubrey Bobb, one of the two accused in the 2017 murder of a D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown resident has pleaded guilty.

Bobb of Kitty, Georgetown appeared before Demerara High Court Judge Jo-Ann Barlow on Monday where a charge for the capital offence of murder was read to him.

He admitted that on October 12, 2017, at David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he murdered 58-year-old Godfrey Scipio called “Saga” during the course/furtherance of a robbery.

Bobb, who is being represented by lawyer Teriq Mohammed, will be sentenced on September 26.

State Counsel Latifiah Elliot, State Counsel Marisa Edwards, and State Counsel Simran Gajraj are representing the prosecution.

Following investigations, the Police charged Bobb and Police Corporal Derwin Eastman with the pensioner’s murder. Corporal Eastman is currently on remand awaiting trial at the Demerara High Court.

According to information, on October 12, 2017, at 18:00 hrs, Scipio was shot to the chest after leaving a city hotel in the company of a woman.

The Police in a report stated that following the shooting, the gunman relieved him of his jewellery before escaping on foot in a northern direction.

The injured Scipio was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Shortly after the murder, Police were able to arrest Bobb after CCTV footage showed him in the area around the same time Scipio was shot and robbed of a gold chain.

He subsequently implicated Corporal Eastman, a former ‘Best Cop’ for Police ‘A’ Division and Police Constable Jameson Williams.

Bobb, an ex-con, allegedly told ranks that Corporal Eastman provided him with the gun to shoot Scipio.

Williams, who was also charged with Scipio’s murder, was discharged last year at the end of a Preliminary Inquiry after a Magistrate found that there was not sufficient evidence to commit him to stand trial at the High Court.
