Teen arrested for drugs found at Charity Market

An 18-year-old man is in police custody after suspected cannabis and cocaine were discovered during an operation at the Charity Old Market on the Essequibo Coast.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the operation was carried out around 11:00 hrs on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, following information received by ranks.
Police reported that upon arrival in the area, they observed the unemployed teenager of Charity Village. The suspect allegedly attempted to evade law enforcement by throwing a black bag into nearby bushes before trying to flee the scene. He was subsequently pursued and apprehended.
The bag was retrieved and searched in his presence, leading to the discovery of a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with a creamish-white substance suspected to be cocaine.
The suspect was escorted to the Charity Police Station, where the substances were weighed. Police said the suspected cannabis amounted to 64.6 grams, while the suspected cocaine weighed 30 grams. The items were then lodged as evidence.
The teen remains in custody as investigations continue.
