Gov’t working to make every school equal- Manickchand as Essequibo, Berbice schools make top ten

Education Minister Priya Manickchand on Monday said the Government is working to ensure every school access the same resources to produce top-performing students. She was at the time addressing a press conference hosted to release the results of this years Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examination.
“Very soon, we would announce the NGSA results and everybody, a lot of people aim for…the best schools. But I want you to remember when those results are announced that any school could be a good school. What we require is good teaching, parental support and interest from the students and we will make you a top student in any school. We’re working extremely hard to make every school equal, with every school having the same resources and once we can do that, a name will be but a name with its own traditions but the quality of education will be the same,” the Minister noted,
Her comment came as this year’s top CSEC and CAPE students came from Regions Two (2), Three (3), Four (4) and six (6).
The 2022 top performer at CSEC is Ramoll Baboolall from the Anna Regina Secondary School with 24 Grade Ones and 3 Grade Twos. Other schools which made it into the top 15 are Queen’s College, Skeldon Line Path Secondary and Saraswati Vidya Niketan.

Meanwhile, CAPE top student is Bhedesh Persaud of Queen’s College followed by Vish Kistama of Berbice High School and Atishta Seenarine of Saraswati Vidya Niketan.

Improvements were recorded in 20 subjects including Mathematics and English. “It took all of us; leadership as well as the collaboration of teachers and parents and students in this country who refused to give up. It took all of us to get here. So today Guyana can celebrate the success of good decisions,” Minister Manickchand noted.
The report on the examinations was presented by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Marcel Hutson who noted that both CAPE and CSEC saw better pass rates when compared to 2021.
The overall pass rate in 2022 is 93.22% for CAPE and the overall pass rate for CSEC is 68.5%.
