United Airlines Introduces Direct Flights Between Houston and Guyana

United Airlines celebrated a significant milestone with the launch of its inaugural nonstop flight from Houston to Georgetown, Guyana. Operated by a Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft, this new service marks a pivotal moment in enhancing connectivity between the two destinations.
The Boeing 737-MAX 8, boasting a capacity of 166 passengers, is equipped with 16 United First seats, 54 Economy Plus seats, and 96 United Economy seats. Passengers can look forward to a comfortable journey featuring United’s NEXT interior, complete with larger overhead bins, seatback entertainment in every seat, and the industry’s fastest available Wi-Fi. With four weekly flights scheduled, travelers now have convenient and direct access to both Houston and Georgetown.
A statement issued from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport indicates that this development not only strengthens the relationship between the United States and Guyana but also unlocks exciting opportunities for both business and leisure travelers. United Airlines now boasts the largest and most diverse international route network among U.S. carriers, offering nonstop service to 134 international destinations across 67 countries. With flights to more destinations across the Atlantic and Pacific than all other U.S. carriers combined, United continues to expand its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, with its summer schedule growing by over 10% throughout the region.
Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United Airlines, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering connectivity and promoting tourism in Guyana. “We are thrilled to connect Houston and the broader United network with one of the fastest-growing economies in the world,” said Quayle. “This new route will offer our customers convenient access to the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Guyana, reinforcing United’s position as the top airline to Latin America and the Caribbean from Houston.”
U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, hailed the new flight as a significant milestone in bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the two countries. “United Airlines’ new flight to Guyana represents yet another significant milestone in our bilateral relationship,” remarked Ambassador Theriot. “It underscores the deepening commercial linkages between our nations and presents incredible tourism opportunities for travelers from both countries.”
Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the positive impact of increased connectivity on Guyana’s tourism industry. “This direct flight will not only provide our citizens with greater travel options but also serve as a major catalyst for further enhancing Guyana’s connectivity to the global tourism marketplace,” said Minister Walrond. “We anticipate a significant increase in visitor arrivals, which will stimulate job creation, support local businesses, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the tourism sector.”
The arrival of the inaugural flight at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport was marked by a traditional water salute, symbolizing the beginning of a new era in air travel between Houston and Georgetown.
