Teen Among Duo Charged with Miner’s Killing

Two miners, including a teenager, have been charged with the brutal killing of 36-year-old Junior Williams at 14 Miles Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River.
The accused have been identified as Daniel Baker, 23, called “Dan”, a gold miner of Wisroc, Linden, and Isiah Smart, 19, a gold miner of Second Alley, Wisroc, Linden.
Williams, of Pamela Road, Mahdia, was allegedly attacked around 05:00 hrs on August 30 during what police believe was a robbery attempt.
Investigations revealed that the victim was first accosted by two men while socialising in the area. Armed with a knife, he managed to repel the initial assault.
However, the suspects reportedly returned armed with cutlasses and unleashed a vicious attack, chopping Williams several times before escaping.
He was later rushed to the Mahdia Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest and subsequent charge of the two accused.
