Clothes Vendor, Family Arrested for Possession of High-Powered Firearms, Ammunition

In a significant intelligence-led operation conducted at around 05:30 hrs today (Wednesday, July 24th, 2024), police seized a total of 26 handguns and high-powered rifles, along with a large cache of ammunition. Six individuals have been arrested and are currently assisting with the investigation.
The operation, led by a Superintendent, targeted Lot 25 Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, the residence of Eon Fagundes, a 47-year-old clothes vendor. Upon arrival, the police team observed Fagundes exiting a flat wooden house on the property, carrying a side bag.
A search of the bag revealed one Sig Sauer rifle and a magazine containing fourteen 9mm rounds of ammunition, one Polimore-80 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight 9mm rounds, one Springfield Armory .45 pistol with four magazines (one containing five live .45 rounds), and one Bravo gun holster.
When questioned about firearm licenses, Fagundes admitted he did not possess any. He was immediately arrested and informed of the offenses.
A subsequent search of the house yielded no further items. However, a black Nissan Juke (Registration number PVV 6472) parked nearby was identified as belonging to Fagundes’ daughter and child-mother, although he was the primary user. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered additional firearms and ammunition in a suitcase, a gulf bag, and a haversack, including:
- One AM-15 rifle with two magazines containing 61 rounds of .223 ammunition
- Two Ruger-57 9mm pistols with one magazine containing 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- One FN-45 pistol with two magazines containing 38 rounds of .45 ammunition
- One Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with one magazine
- One Beretta 9mm pistol with one magazine
- One Springfield Hellcat 9mm pistol with one magazine
- One Canik 9mm pistol with one magazine
- One Glock 43 pistol with one magazine
- Five Glock 19 pistols with nine magazines and 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- Seven Glock 40 pistols with ten magazines and 18 rounds of .40 ammunition
- Two Glock 17 9mm pistols with two magazines
- One Glock 9mm pistol with one magazine
- One Glock 45 pistol with one magazine
Additionally, the bags and suitcase contained:
- Seventy-five 12-gauge cartridges
- Four hundred and fifty-six rounds of .223 ammunition
- Four hundred and eighty-four rounds of 9mm ammunition
- Eighty-three rounds of 5.7x28mm ammunition
- Thirteen rounds of 10mm ammunition
- Three hundred and fifteen rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition
- Fifteen magazines
Eon Fagundes and the other occupants of the house, namely his 66-year-old mother Carol Fagundes, 22-year-old unemployed niece Devena Persaud, 49-year-old unemployed sister Theresa Fagundes, 48-year-old unemployed sister Tessa Persaud, and 48-year-old handyman Clement Thornton, were all arrested for questioning.
The seized firearms, ammunition, and magazines have been taken to the Guyana Police Force’s Ballistic Section for examination, marking, sealing, and lodging. The motor vehicle was also impounded.
Investigations are ongoing.
