April 10 2025-  The owner of Ezekiel Funeral Home suspects arson after a late-night fire on Wednesday damaged a section of his Best Road, Vreed-en-Hoop property.

Ezekiel Thomas, the proprietor, told BIG Smith News Watch that the fire badly damaged a room used for Muslim burial rites, and scorched the outer walls of the building.

“Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the generator room, or I would have lost everything,” Thomas said.

He explained that he was alerted to the fire at around 11:00 p.m. and, upon arrival, discovered two burnt tyres outside the premises—raising suspicions that the fire may have been deliberately set.

The matter has since been reported to the police, who have reportedly questioned several individuals in connection with the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.
