Press body frowns at attempt on Travis Chase’s life

The Guyana Press Association on Tuesday issued a statement calling on the authorities to bring the perpetrators of the Monday night’s attempt on the life of journalist Travis Chase, to justice.
In part the statement read ” The Guyana Press Association calls for a thorough investigation into the shooting that targeted journalist Travis Chase.”
The statement continued “The GPA calls on the authorities to move swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice. Journalists must be allowed to work without threats to their lives and livelihood”
On Monday while on Durban Street, a lone gunman on a motorcycle opened fire on Chase’s vehicle which was parked as he went to check on a relative.
An off-duty policeman who was in the areas, reported seeing the motorcyclist acting in a suspicious manner moments before he opened fire on the car.
The police observed three gunshot holes on the car of the journalist which said was caused discharge from a 9MM pistol.
in 2020, Chase suffer the lost of a vehicle which torched while parked inside a government agency’s compound not far away from Monday night’s shooting incident.
The police in a statement after the incident said they are investigating the matter.
The Guyana Press Association for its part, has since communicated the development to their exterior counterparts.
